I took advantage of a 3-day break between jobs to steal away to Montreal, in search of poutine and smoked meat. Schwartz’s did not disappoint, and I recommend getting the cherry soda with your smoked meat sandwich–the combination simply works and I won’t try to explain why. Montreal-style bagels at Fairmont Bagels were an interesting change of pace for a New Yorker–somewhat smaller, airier and sweeter than bagels in the states, but anything pales next to that smoked meat sandwich. Trippy street art all over Mile End and excellent, inventive beers at Dieu du Ciel were pleasant surprises. I’ll definitely be snapping up bottles Péché Mortel if I ever spot it in NYC. You can bet I’ll be back, and maybe I’ll even invest in a down coat for a winter visit.
